OptiMed Technologies installs Image Management and Archival System

at Boston Medical Center

FAIRFIELD, NJ, July 12, 2001 -- OptiMed Technologies, Inc. announced today the installation of an image management and archival system at Boston Medical Center.

Alice K. Jacobs, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology, at Boston Medical Center stated, "After we made the decision to go cineless, it was clear that OptiMed was the vendor with the most comprehensive cardiology image management solution for our present and future needs. We were impressed with OptiMed's open architecture and universal connectivity. Moreover, OptiMed's dedicated web server gives us the security we need to maintain patient confidentiality when accessing hospital images via the Internet or intranet."

OptiMed's Image Management and Archival System is the leading independent cardiac imaging network system, and it offers the ability to integrate Echo, Nuclear, CT, IVUS, MRI and any other DICOM modality in a singular system. Expansion and upgrading are easily performed, as the system is designed to use off-the-shelf hardware in an open architecture environment. The software is Windows NT-based, allowing hospitals to handle most routine service and maintenance using their own biomedical or IT personnel.

The OptiMed system for Boston Medical Center provides built-in redundancy of patient images on each station and on the network, ensuring data integrity and maximum uptime. In addition, OptiMed utilizes a "non-critical" file server, which operates independently of the other networked stations, as opposed to a "central" file server that can adversely affect overall system performance during periods of downtime.

Ben Noy, President of OptiMed, said, "In addition to Boston Medical Center's leadership role in groundbreaking medical research in cardiology, the hospital is an important teaching institution where future generations of cardiologists are trained on leading edge technologies. With both of our organizations focused on quality and innovation, OptiMed looks forward to working with Boston Medical to provide our latest developments in cardiac imaging."

OptiMed's recent product innovations include EchoStor (seamlessly integrating Echo images with the Cath network), InstaVu (instantaneous access to patient images), Web Server (inter- and intra- hospital image access using the internet), seamless application interfaces (hemodynamic, HIS and other), autopopulating user-customizable Cath Report and Echo Report (integrated with patient data and images).

OptiMed Technologies Inc., founded in 1993, is a worldwide distributor of image management and archival systems for the cath lab. With the second-largest installed base in the industry, OptiMed has consistently been on the cutting edge of new technology and innovation as it applies to cardiac imaging.OptiMed's OptiCor Image Management and Archival System is the leading independent cardiac imaging network system. The OptiCor network connects to all major cardiac x-ray systems and interfaces with other OptiMed product offerings including echocardiography image management, Internet image storage and retrieval, instant image access and multiple archival media options. OptiMed is headquartered in Fairfield, NJ, with sales and service offices located strategically throughout the world.

Boston Medical Center, the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine, is the largest safety net hospital in New England.
